HBO’s Watchmen and Amazon Prime’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel received the most nominations for the 72nd Emmy Awards—26 and 20 respectively—and both are up for Music Supervisor and song trophies.
Winner of the Outstanding Music Supervison Emmy the last two years, Robin Urdang, Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino are again nominated, going up against Watchmen’s Liza Richardson, Nora Felder for Stranger Things, Thomas Golubic (AMC’s Better Call Saul), Jen Malone and Adam Leber (HBO’s Euphoria), Kier Lehman (Insecure) and Catherine Grieves and David Holmes for BBC America’s Killing Eve.
In the Music and Lyrics category, essentially best song, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ tune for Watchmen, “The Way It Used To Be," is contending against the Maisel track from Thomas Mizer & Curtis Moore, “One Less Angel.” It’s the first time Maisel has been nominated in the category.
Also nominated are Pharrell Williams & Chad Hugo for The Black Godfather’s “Letter to My Godfather”; Labrinth for “All For Us” from Euphoria; Ingrid Michaelson (“Build It Up,” Little Fires Everywhere); and Siddhartha Kohsla & Taylor Goldsmith (“Memorized,” This Is Us).
Among other musicians receiving noms are The Rza in the Main Title Theme category for Wu-Tang: An American Saga; and documentary score nominees Kamasi Washington and Devo’s Mark Mothersbaugh
The 62nd Grammy Awards secured noms in the categories of Directing, Production Design, and Sound mixing; Netflix’s Dolly Parton's Heartstrings: These Old Bones is up for Outstanding TV Movie; and Let's Go Crazy: The Grammy Salute To Prince is among the Outstanding Music Direction nominees.
Apple TV+’s Beastie Boys Story and EPIX’s Laurel Canyon: A Place In Time received noms for Outstanding Documentary Or Nonfiction Special. The Beasties doc is also up for writing and picture editing awards.
Suzi Dietz and the other Executive Producers of PBS’ American Masters are up for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series for Terrence McNally: Every Act of Life, the story of the acclaimed playwright's life.
The Creative Arts Emmy Awards will be handed out 9/19 and the awards ceremony will be held a day later, on the 20th, and televised on ABC with Jimmy Kimmel as host..
