As expected, Riverside County health officials announced on Wednesday afternoon that Coachella and Stagecoach, which were both postponed to October following the Covid-19 pandemic, have been canceled for 2020.
Citing concerns over a possible resurgence of Coronavirus spread in the fall, Riverside County Public Health
Officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser signed the order on 6/10 canceling the AEG/Goldenvoice festivals that both take place at the Empire Polo Club in Indio every year.
County health officials said they were in contact with local leaders, including the City of Indio and Goldenvoice ahead of making the decision.
The cancellation comes on the heels of the city of Chicago canceling Lollapalooza in Grant Park 7/30-8/2. Festival organizers are planning a major 30th anniversary celebration and will host a virtual event this year on the days the event was scheduled. The weeklong 42nd annual Chicago Jazz Festival has also been canceled.
County officials have been in contact with Goldenvoice, which operates both the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and Stagecoach Festival 2020. https://t.co/CBemsKWU2d View PH order: https://t.co/sCoPfUa6Km #RivCoNow pic.twitter.com/GNqq6rVddK
