ACADEMY OPENS CARES ACT HELPLINE

The Recording Academy has launched their CARES Act Helpline, a service providing guidance and info to members seeking aid through the CARES Act. The Recording Academy will also host weekly webinars answering more general questions applicable to the larger community of music creators during the crisis.

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted every type of creator, from songwriters and session players to engineers and performers. With benefits and processes varying by state and individual circumstances, many creators are struggling to navigate the system and access relief.

“We are gratified that 25,000 music professionals watched our CARES Act webinar. But as the economic effects of the pandemic continue to devastate music creators’ livelihoods, many are expressing difficulty navigating the regulatory and legal hurdles of obtaining benefits,” said Recording Academy Chair and Interim President/CEO Harvey Mason Jr. “As a next step, we will begin helping music creators one by one, initiating this unprecedented role providing individual consultations for our members, and readily accessible content for the entire music community.”

Each week, Chief Industry, Government and Member Relations Officer Daryl Friedman will be joined by legal representation from Greenberg Traurig, in a pre-recorded webinar answering several requested questions with the most current info available. While individual consultation is available to RA membership, all creators are welcomed and encouraged to view the weekly webinars.

For more info on the webinars, view Friedman’s video announcement here, and follow the Recording Academy on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for upcoming times and to tune in. For RA members looking for individual consultation, the query form can be found here.
