THE TIKTOK EFFECT

The influence viral app TikTok is having on music discovery and streaming is becoming more widespread every week. Let’s examine songs that are currently trending at TikTok and—perhaps not coincidentally—receiving an uptick in streams on the DSPs.

Trevor Daniel “Falling” (Alamo/Interscope)

After Arizona Zervas’ “Roxanne,” this is probably the biggest track to break from TikTok and stick in the upper reaches of the Apple Music and Spotify top 200. It’s currently top 10 at Spotify and #30 at Apple U.S. Daniel’s “Falling” has been used in over 4m clips on TikTok.

Doja Cat “Say So” (Kemosabe/RCA)

Since Doja Cat released her sophomore album Hot Pink, this track achieved TikTok virality from the get-go. Despite not being the lead single, “Say So” is now her best performing track at Spotify, reaching a new peak of #29 on the U.S. chart. Doja’s song, accompanied by a viral dance, has been used in nearly 9m TikTok videos.

BROCKHAMPTON “SUGAR” (Question Everything/RCA)

Rising at Spotify and Apple Music, along with breaking at Top 40 radio, “SUGAR” is now firing on all cylinders. The RCA “boy band” have found their next big single, reaching a new peak at Spotify at #23 and zooming to #35 at Apple Music. The song and viral dance at TikTok has generated nearly 1.5m clips.

Conan Gray “Maniac” (Republic)

“Maniac” has its own dance craze at TikTok, creating a late-breaking rise at Spotify for Gray. The track has leaped 25 spots to a new peak of #80 on Spotify. “Maniac” has over 200k videos on TikTok.

Arizona Zervas “FML” (Columbia)

Zervas has another cut going viral on the app, as TikTok users are using the track as a soundtrack to their invitation to potential suitors to come “fuck [their] life up” in creative clips. Zervas’ “FML” reached a new peak on Spotify at #67 this week behind over 200k TikTok clips. “Roxanne” now has over 2m videos on the app.

Tokyo’s Revenge “GOODMORNINGTOKYO!” (Indie)

The new rapper has earned over 1m videos now on TikTok featuring “GOODMORNINGTOKYO!” The song just reached a new peak on Spotify, climbing to #48. He's currently featured as the cover of Spotify's Internet People playlist.
