CHART STORY:
LOVER ’S LOVELY LANDING

The numbers are in. Taylor Swift’s Lover (Republic) has officially debuted at #1 on the Top 50 Chart with more than 885k. If you add in the tracks she scattered like pastel-colored breadcumbs prior to the album drop, her first-week RTD is around 1.1m.

It’s a big moment for the House of Lipman, as Tay’s first release straight through Republic arrives as the year’s biggest debut so far. Monte tips his hat to “Field General” Jim Roppo, whom he says worked closely with 13 Management; the label boss also spotlights International exec Mike Alexander (Tay’s 3m+ global bow is also making news) and promo wizard Gary Spangler as key players in the coup.

The week’s next-biggest bow belongs to Question Everything/RCA’s Brockhampton; the collective’s GINGER appears at #2 with a solid 77k. There’s also Def Jam’s Jeezy and Big Machine/BMLG’s Midland, who earn 50k and 22k and come in at #4 and #13, respectively.

When it comes to marketshare, UMG is #1 with a whopping 73%, SME follows with 13% and WMG nabs 12%, while the indies claim 2%.

Streeting this week are projects by Volcano/RCA’s Tool, Interscope’s Lana Del Rey and Big Machine’s Sheryl Crow, as well as the physical version of Bon Iver’s i,i (Jagjaguwar).

Now, please excuse us while we faceplant into our couches for the remainder of the long weekend. Don’t bother us unless you’re Postmates or Eaze.
