CHART STORY: BAD NEWS NEVER FELT SO GOOD

NAV’s Bad Habits (XO/Republic)—the Canadian rapper’s sophomore full-length—bows at #1 on the HITS Top 50 Chart, moving more than 78k units. He lands above Republic labelmate Ariana Grande, whose thank u, next holds at #2 for another week with 62k.

This week, the whole Top 5 belongs to Universal. For example, Juice WRLD’s Death Race For Love (Grade A/Interscope) slides #1-3, tacking on an additional 57k in his third week, while Rich the Kid’s The World Is Yours 2 (Interscope) debuts at #4 with 42k. XXXTentacion’s ? (Bad Vibes Forever) flies #19-5 in tandem with the set’s first anniversary, which his team commemorated with a hefty D2C push. That set even ended up as the week’s biggest-selling album, going #1 on the Sales Chart with 24k there.

As for the Top 50 Chart’s Top 10, a whopping nine of those titles belong to UMG. It’s worth noting that four of those are through Republic and three are through Interscope. So, yeah, drinks are on Monte and Janick.

Another key new release can be found in Mötley Crüe’s The Dirt Soundtrack (Eleven Seven), which enters at #14 following the biopic’s arrival at Netflix. In celebration, we’re starting off the weekend by going through two cans of hairspray each.

When it comes to marketshare, UMG is #1 with 55%, WMG follows with 29% and SME is #3 with 14%, while the indies claim 3%.

Streeting this week is Darkroom/Interscope’s Billie Eilish, who will undoubtedly bow at #1 with her debut LP. Also new are projects by MCA Nashville’s George Strait, Big Loud’s Jake Owen and Slumerican/Shady Records/Interscope’s Yelawolf.
