For months, Lil Uzi Vert has been appealing directly to his fan base to "Free Uzi," revealing a deep internal struggle to get the green light from label Generation Now to drop the highly-anticipated next album, Eternal Atake.
Uzi signed to DJ Drama & Don Cannon's JV back in 2015 on the heels of massive Soundcloud success, but he recently "retired," choosing to walk away from making music than continue to deal with, umm, the drama.
After tagging Roc Nation and Jay Z directly in a recent Instagram Stories post, Jigga and company stepped in and are now officially managing Uzi, who immediately went back to work in the studio.
The Roc has been quietly navigating difficult business and legal situations for artists behind the scenes, most notably for Lil Wayne and Meek Mill.
Label head DJ Drama addressed the situation on IG Sunday (3/24) writing, "Uzi should put out EA [Eternal Atake] tomorrow or any day he wants. He has me and [co-CEO Don] Cannon's total support and blessings to drop it."
"I really just want them to respect me," Uzi told
XXL last month. "They just gotta respect me, 'cause I respect them. That's the reason why I really went over there. Like normal shit. It's just a different level in life. Everybody go through the same shit."
