Ariana Grande’s thank u, next soars with a projection of 325-350k, making it the biggest first week since Lil Wayne debuted with 480k in October. It also marks the biggest debut by a solo female artist since Taylor Swift's boffo 2017 bow for reputation.
What’s even more impressive is she does it without a ticket bundle and only a small D2C contribution that may make up less than 5% of the total. When sales and streams from the tracks released prior to the album are added in, thank u, next will have collected an RTD of at least 625-675k by the end of week one, and that release-to-date metric, in the present reality, is far more illustrative than the week-to-date number. Ariana is a marketplace powerhouse.
More data to this point: On day one, thank u tracks earned some 68m worldwide streams on Spotify, and single “7 rings” alone reached over 10m in daily global Spotify streams yesterday. Only XXXtentacion’s “SAD!” (the day after his death) and Mariah Carey (on Christmas) have reached 10m in one day on Spotify global. She’s dominating the Apple Music chart as well, with the entire Top 7 and 12 of the Top 15 tracks, not to mention the #1 album and track on iTunes.
Ariana Grande (Republic) 325-350k total activity, 95-105k album
