THE GLOBAL CITIZEN FESTIVAL BEAMS FROM SOUTH AFRICA 12/2

The Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100, hosted by Trevor Noah, happens this Sunday 12/2 in Johannesburg, South Africa. An array of stars will be performing there, which explains why so many execs from the western music biz are there already.

The concert will honor the legacy of one of our greatest global citizens Nelson Mandela, and is part of a wider campaign to end extreme poverty by the year 2030, and goals to raise $1b with 50% of the funds earmarked to support women and girls specifically, worldwide.

Performances will include Beyoncé and JAY-Z, Ed Sheeran, Eddie Vedder, Pharrell Williams, Usher, Kasey Musgraves, Femi Kuti, Chris Martin, Sho Madjozi, Tiwa Savage and Wizkid among many more.

Prior to her appearance there, Beyoncé offered a personal tribute to Mandela via an open letter titled "Dear Madiba," which was also published in South Africa's newspaper, Sowetan.

"You were a strategic warrior, a bold activist and charismatic and well-loved leader," she wrote, "your vision for dignity, for human rights, for peace and a South Africa free of racism and apartheid, allows us all to turn dreams into reality."

Nelson Mandela died at the age of 95 on Dec. 5, 2013.

The Global Citizen Festival will air on MSNBC 12/2 from 9pm to 12am ET.
