NIGHTFALL OF DIAMONDS

Students and teachers from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida hung out backstage with members of Dead & Company after Monday’s concert at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla.

Inspired by how the students have rallied for change after the tragic school shooting that left 17 dead, Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, John Mayer, Oteil Burbridge and Jeff Chimenti worked with the office of Rep. Ted Deutch office to bring the school group together for a night of music.

Dead & Company wore MSDStrong T-shirts during the concert; Burbridge also wore a shirt supporting the 3/24 March for Our Lives Rally.

Headcount, the organization best known for registering voters at concerts, and for which Weir is a board member, received a record number of sign-ups at the show.

Dead & Company’s set included “Shakedown Street,” “Cassidy,” “Bird Song,” “Deal,” “Eyes of the World,” “Darkstar” and, with its appropriate chorus of “we will get by,” “Touch of Grey.” They also covered The Band’s “The Weight.”
