CRITICS 1, YOUTUBE 0

A comical video critical of YouTube’s music royalty paying practices was restored on the streaming service after complaints about censorship streamed into the Google-owned company’s offices.

“Pennies vs. Dollars” from the Content Creators Coalition, which counts David Byrne, Roseanne Cash and T Bone Burnett among its members, was pulled from the site less than two days after its 10/25 posting. (We wrote about it here.)

The Coalition, which calls its campaign “YouTube Can Do Better,” protested by saying, “After two days of widespread press coverage of our artist-driven campaign to pressure Google into treating artists more fairly, you suspended and are now censoring our account.”

The New York Post reported that three hours after the video’s removal, YouTube responded “Our specialist team has re-reviewed your account and found no violations of our advertising policies. Your ads are now eligible to run.”

C3 then premiered the campaign’s spot “That’s Different,” through Vimeo.
