IRVING AZOFF HAS DONE IT AGAIN

A pair of classic rock events are coming to the coasts. The Classic West will be held at L.A.'s Dodger Stadium on 7/15 & 16, and The Classic East will be at N.Y.'s Citi Field on 7/29 & 30. Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, Steely Dan, The Doobie Brothers, Journey and Earth, Wind and Fire—all acts represented entirely or in part by menschy mogul Irving Azoff—make up the bill.

The shows, which are being promoted by Live Nation, are not being referred to as festivals, as they take place in urban stadium settings, although they're already being compared to Indio's Desert Trip.

“Classic-rock radio listeners have been underserved by current festival lineups,” shared Azoff, who's had ideas of such opportunities rattling around in his noggin for quite some time.

With ticket prices ranging from $150 to $950, these shows are certainly more affordable than Desert Trip, especially when you take into consideration that the latter is much more of a destination event. Considering that a large part of the targeted audience resides in either L.A. or N.Y., and given the vast amount of hotel options (when compared to the thin offerings of Coachella valley), these dates should sell out shortly after they go up for sale on 4/7. That said, pre-sale tickets will be made available to American Express holders on 4/3.

Another bonus? Much less schlepping. Hips around the globe ache at the mere thought of trekking to and across Empire Polo Club and Field (the site of Coachella, Desert Trip, et al).

The Classic events will mark The Eagles' first concert appearance since the death of Glenn Frey. And Christine McVie, who rejoined Fleetwood in 2014 after a 16-year hiatus, will perform with the band for a revival of its classic mid-1970s and ’80s lineup. Ain't that somethin'?
