THE OSCARS OPENED AND CLOSED WITH A BANG

This will certainly go down as one of the more memorable Oscar ceremonies of all time, particularly due to the crazy Best Picture mixup at the end, which pried the trophy from the hands of Team La La Land and bestowed it on Team Moonlight.

But the tone of "wilding out" was set at the beginning by Justin Timberlake, who delivered one of the most spirited Oscar performances ever in a well-choreographed intro scene for the nominated song "Can't Stop the Feeling," up for Best Original Song and featured in a way that was joyous and fun as it kicked off the whole show.

Although the Academy Award for Best Original Song ultimately went to La La Land's "City of Stars" (which also won for score, and took home six trophies, though not Best Picture), on iTunes Timberlake won, shooting from the mid-20s to #5 after the opening number Sunday night. It is currently #2.

Also seeing an Oscars bump is The Trolls Soundtrack (RCA) which jumped to #2 on the album chart, while Interscope's La La Land moved up to #4 and the deluxe edition of Disney's Moana, which also got a nice spotlight on the broadcast, leapt to #10.

Casey Affleck took Best Actor for Manchester by the Sea, Emma Stone Best Actress for La La, Moonlight's Mahershala Ali won Supporting Actor and Fences' Viola Davis Supporting Actress. La La's Damien Chazelle took the directing prize, while original screenplay went to Manchester, and adapted screenplay to Moonlight.

There were many tributes to diversity and inclusiveness and some spirited digs at Trump, but the tone was not as strongly political as many anticipated.

Our neighbor Jimmy Kimmel hosted with aplomb, though even he was nonplussed at the final mixup. Pricewaterhouse has started an investigation into the mixup.
