THESE CHARTS SEE THE FUTURE

Epic Star Wins with First of Two Simultaneous Drops

A1/Freebandz/Epic’s Future has debuted at #1 on the HITS Sales Plus Streaming (SPS) Chart, moving approximately 139k units of his eponymous album.

Last week’s chart-topper, Republic’s Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack, drops to #3 this week, but is able to tack on another 54k.

As for the other debuts, Charlie Wilson’s In It To Win It (RCA) bows at #4 with 51k, while Ryan AdamsPrisoner (Blue Note) and Alison KraussWindy City (Capitol) come in at #8 and #10 with 45k and 36k, respectively.

Still benefiting from a surge at Target, Garth BrooksThe Ultimate Collection (Pearl) races #22-12.

Rae Sremmurd’s SremmLife 2 (Eardruma/Interscope) also sees a nice boost, moving #39-24 in tandem with the release of the “Swang” music video, which has racked up 16m+ YouTube views since its 2/16 drop date. And Marian Hill’s Act One (Photo Finish/Republic), which is now exploding on the radio, re-enters the chart at #46.

If you haven’t been living under a rock, you know that the Oscars are this weekend. That said, we’d like to document the related pre-show standings. RCA’s Trolls set currently sits at #9. Considering that Justin Timberlake is said to be opening the Hollywood bash with a performance of lead jam “Can’t Stop the Feeling!,” one would expect this to enjoy a nice reaction next week. Meanwhile, the Interscope-helmed soundtrack for La La Land, which has the most nominations (14), is at #19. Will this one dance up the charts? We wouldn’t doubt it.

When it comes to SPS marketshare, UMG leads with 45%. Then there’s SME at #2 with 29%, WMG at #3 with 21% and indies at #4 with 5%.

Over on the Album Sales Chart, the Top 5 is frontloaded with the four aforementioned debuts: Future (#1, 57k), Charlie Wilson (#2, 49k), Ryan Adams (#3, 41k) and Alison Krauss (#4,33k).

Here, one more new release makes the Top 15, as Epic’s Jessie James Decker appears at #14 with just north of 12k for her EP, Gold.

The results from the Album Sales marketshare battle look similar to the SPS rankings. There, UMG is #1 with 38%, SME is #2 with 37%, WMG is #3 with 17% and the indies follow at #4 with 8%.

Another Future album, titled Hndrxx, streeted today; expect that to take the cake on the next chart, giving the rapper, his label team and manager Anthony Saleh even more to celebrate. Little Big Town’s seventh studio album, The Breaker (Capitol Nashville) is also streeting, as is John Mayer’s The Search for Everything: Wave Two—the second batch of songs from his seventh studio album, released as an EP.
