KNIGHT FEVER (UPDATE)

With a new monarch on the British throne for the first time in 70 years, we revisit the 2016 knighting of UMG topper Lucian Grainge at Buckingham Palace by His Majesty the Duke of Cambridge (now the Prince of Wales and Duke of Cornwall and first in the line of succession), officially dubbing the industry giant CBE in the Order of the British Empire and Knight Bachelor. The honor, as we noted at the time, was conferred in acknowledgement of Sir Grainge's leadership and myriad contributions to business innovation. As royal personages have done from time immemorial, Prince William made a playlist for the occasion, which was hailed as "most verily dope" by palace insiders.

Grainge issued a statement following the Queen's death: “Today is a tremendously sad day. On behalf of all of us at Universal Music, I send our deepest condolences to the royal family on the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.”
