U.K. CHARTS: SONY SHOOTS AND SCORES

Jason Iley’s Sony Music U.K. celebrates its 13th Official Albums #1 album in Blighty this year as Little MixGlory Days shifts a mighty impressive combined 96k. It is the 30th #1 for Simon Cowell’s JV Syco.

Glory Days is the highest first-week sales for a #1 album by a British girl band since Spice GirlsSpiceworld (Virgin) opened with 192k in 1997. As well as their first #1, Little Mix claim the second fastest-selling album of 2016 after David Bowie’s Blackstar (RCA), which notched up 146k in January.

Furthermore, two former Official Singles #1s from Syco are still hanging around the Top 5: Little Mix’ “Shout Out To My Ex” (454k combined sales) is at #3 and James Arthur’s “Say You Won’t Let Go” (763k combined sales) is at #4.

Sony Music now have four of the top five and seven of the top 10 fastest-selling albums of 2016 to date, and have earned the #1 album spot in the U.K. charts for the last six weeks with Olly Murs (RCA), Robbie Williams (Columbia), Arthur, Elvis Presley with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (Sony Music CG) and Kings Of Leon (Columbia). The major’s #1 albums tally this year has now reached #13—more than any other.

Further down, Metallica's Hardwired… to Self-Destruct (Virgin EMI) has finished the week at #2, while Bruno Mars sits at #3 with 24K Magic (Atlantic).

Michael Ball and Alfie Boe move down one place to #4 with Together (Decca) and Presley’s The Wonder of You stays at #5.

Atlantic act Clean Bandit are firmly holding onto the Official Singles #1 with “Rockabye” notching up combined sales of 74k (31k downloads and 4.3m streams). The track features Warner U.K. breaking act Anne-Marie, who’s tipped for big things next year.

“Black Beatles” from Polydor’s Rae Sremmurd, which features Gucci Mane, has risen two places to #2 and Mars closes the Top 5 at #5 with “24K Magic” (Atlantic).
