FLIPOVER FRIDAY: iTUNES AND APPLE MUSIC NEW ARRIVALS

Everyone was in such a hurry to get to the mall this Black Friday that only two new albums have made it into the Top 20 on iTunes’ top albums chart. As expected, the highly anticipated XO/Republic release from The Weeknd, Starboy, is dominating all the iTunes/Apple Music charts.

No surprise here: Starboy is #1 at iTunes and Apple Music this flipover Friday and the clean version of the album is #21 on the sales chart.

Six of the album’s tracks are in the Top 20 on the Apple Music songs chart, as the newly released “Sidewalks” f/Kendrick Lamar (#14) and “Reminder” (#16) join the four previously released tracks.

A $6.99 sale is keeping the iTunes chart packed with recent releases, among them Florida Georgia Line’s Dig Your Roots (BMLG) at #5, Lady Gaga’s Joanne (Interscope) at #7 and Kings of Leon’s WALLS (RCA) at #15.

Christian composer-performer Josh Garrels has the lone holiday debut in the Top 20 as his self-released The Light Came Down opens at #14. RCA’s A Pentatonix Christmas is at #2, leading the nine holiday albums in the Top 30.

Speaking of holidays, plenty of aging hippies decided no Thanksgiving is complete without the story of the 27 8-by-10 color glossy pictures with the circles and arrows as Arlo Guthrie’s Alice Restaurant (Warner Bros.) went to #19. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the events detailed in the song “Thanksgiving Day Massacree”; Guthrie’s 40th anniversary edition, released on his Rising Son label in 2006, is at #27.
