U.K. SIGNINGS: M.O AND LABRINTH

Promising girl band M.O—not to be confused with female solo artist —could be the next British act to break overseas after signing to John Janick’s Interscope, while Sony U.K. artist Labrinth has signed an exclusive worldwide songwriting agreement with BMG.

M.O, signed to Ben Mortimer and Tom March’s UMG U.K. imprint Polydor in Blighty, currently have the single “Who Do You Think Of?” on the A List at BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra, and playlisted at KISS. It’s up three places from last week to #32 on the U.K. Singles Chart.

"I've been watching M.O connect with music fans, especially over the course of 2016,” said Janick. “As well as being great writers, the group has a sound that draws on some of the greatest dance and R&B music, while being unique to them at the same time. We are really excited to build on the current U.K. success and break them here in the U.S.”

In other signing news, SYCO solo star Labrinth has signed to BMG for publishing ahead of the release of his long-awaited second album, Take Me To The Truth, out this year. It follows 2012’s debut Electronic Earth, which peaked at #2 on the U.K. Albums Chart.

Labrinth has written and produced for Rihanna, Emeli Sande, Kygo, The Weeknd, Plan B and Mike Posner. The deal was secured by Kate Sweetsur, BMG U.K. VP Creative, and Shani Gonzales in BMG's LA office.

“Labrinth's track record speaks for itself,” said Sweetsur. “He's firmly established himself as a chart-topping artist, a highly sought after collaborator and one of the most exciting songwriters of his generation.”
