ELTON LIVE ON THE STRIP? CRAZY (UPDATE)

Elton John drew a huge throng and a guest appearance by Lady Gaga for his a special concert at the site of the old Tower Records on L.A.’s Sunset Strip on Saturday; the hour-long set was streamed live exclusively on AOL.com. The show was offered to thank the city of West Hollywood and its residents for supporting the Elton John AIDS Foundation and Oscar viewing party over the years.

The rock legend performed a mix of hits (including "Rocket Man" and "Tiny Dancer") and songs from his recently released Island set Wonderful Crazy Night at the event, which was co-sponsored by AOL BUILD and BBVA Compass. Gaga joined him for "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me."

Traffic was naturally at a standstill around the time of the show, as thousands of fans lined the Strip.

“We’re profoundly grateful for [West Hollywood’s] generous support,” Sir Elton declared, "so I wanted to do something special just for them.”

“West Hollywood has a special relationship with the Elton John AIDS Foundation, including as the host City to its annual Academy Awards Viewing Party. The Foundation has a vision that our community deeply embraces —that the fight against AIDS can be won,” said WeHo Mayor Lindsey P. Horvath. “Elton John is a music legend and an extraordinary person. I’m overjoyed that he played a special concert on The Sunset Strip in recognition of our city’s support—West Hollywood loves Elton John.”

The EJAF Academy Awards Viewing Party Wonderful Crazy Night, hosted by the superstar and husband/erstwhile manager David Furnish, will take place at West Hollywood Park on Sunday night.
