U.K. CHARTS: ADELE NEARS 2M IN BLIGHTY

Adele is just 30k sales short of hitting the 2 million mark in Blighty, with 25 set to become the fastest to have hit the milestone in U.K. music history. Unsurprisingly, Adele tops the U.K. Official Albums Chart today for a fourth week running.

The phenomenon is showing little sign of slowing down, as the XL/Columbia set continues to sell between 46-61k copies a day on Ms. Adkins’ home turf. The 2m feat is expected to be reached today, and adds considerable weight to its 6m U.S. figure.

21, Adele’s second album (and the second-biggest-selling in history), hit the 2m mark in 13 weeks in 2011. 25 has done so in four.

Elsewhere on this week’s chart tally in Blighty, Elvis Presley scores his strongest sales week yet, with If I Can Dream (Sony Music CG) notching up combined sales of 121k for its seventh week, bringing its total to just under 636k and climbing a place to #2.

Last week’s #2, Coldplay’s A Head Full of Dreams(Parlophone), slips to #3, Justin Bieber’s Purpose (Def Jam) holds at #4 and Jess Glynne’s I Cry When I Laugh (Atlantic U.K.) completes the Top 5.

Jason Iley’s Sony Music U.K. finds X Factor winner Louisa Johnson in the singles Top 10 with her debut “Forever Young” (SYCO).

The Christmas #1 could go to Bieber, who has now logged four weeks at #1 and #2 consecutively with “Love Yourself,” which sells 102k this week, and “Sorry,” breaking a record last held by The Beatles in doing so.

The remainder of this week’s Top 5 is made up of Adele’s “Hello” #3, Grace ft G-Eazy’s “You Don’t Own Me” (Columbia) #4, and Bieber’s “What Do You Mean” #5.
