MTV TAPS DIGITAL VET ATKINS AS NEW PREZ

MTV has named Sean Atkins its new President, replacing outgoing prexy Stephen Friedman. Atkins, most recently GM and EVP of Digital Media & Strategy at Discovery Networks, will report to Viacom Music and Entertainment Group head Doug Herzog.

Atkins will oversee creative and biz operations for MTV, MTV2 and mtvU.

“Sean is smart, creative, passionate, and remarkably energized about the sea change at hand in our industry,” declared Herzog. “The strength of MTV lies in its ability to constantly reinvent, and Sean’s forward-thinking, versatile leadership will ensure our brand and business continue to evolve and deliver for our audience.”

Herzog promised that Atkins would not be allowed to show any videos.
