THE RIGHT PLACE & TIME FOR BIG DEAL

Kenny MacPherson and his team at Big Deal Music begin creative meetings at the three-year-old pubco’s Nashville offices with a whole lot of momentum—and it just so happens that a big piece of the action is being generated by Nashville-based writers. Here we go:

The company has two songs on Pop radio: Nick Jonas’ Top 10 hit “Chains” (co-written by Big Deal’s Danny Parker) and Shawn Mendes’ rising “Stitches” (Parker, Teddy Geiger and Daylight). Shakey Graves has three Americana Music Awards nominations: album, single and emerging artist. Ray LaMontagne’s song “Please” was performed twice last week on The Voice by winner Sawyer Fredericks and peaked at #2 on the top iTunes chart. My Morning Jacket’s The Waterfall (see Critics’ Choice) debuted at #11 two weeks ago.

Brad Tursi, who just picked up a Music Row Breakthrough Writer award nom, has the #1 Country record in both sales and spins with Tyler Farr’s “A Guy Walks Into a Bar,” while Tursi and his band Old Dominion scored the # 1 most added record at Country radio two weeks with the "Break Up With Him." Brett Beavers has the #13 record on the charts as writer and producer of Canaan Smith’s "Love You Like That." And Tim James wrote the new Darius Rucker single "Southern Style,” which is also the album’s title track.
