MAMAS, DON’T LET YOUR BABIES GROW UP TO BE LAWYERS: Everybody knows that the true rock stars of today—and the ones who get most of the action—are entertainment attorneys, which is why so many kids these days daydream about drawing up 360 deals. In an effort to make these dreams come true, the Grammy Foundation has launched its 13th Annual Entertainment Law Initiative Essay Competition, co-sponsored by the American Bar Association, in which each contestant submits a 3,000-word essay on a compelling legal topic facing the music biz. A cash scholarship of $5,000 will be awarded to the author of the winning paper and $1,500 will be awarded to each of four runners-up. Additionally, each winner will receive airfare, hotel accommodations, and a ticket to the Grammys, as well as invitations to other Grammy Week activities, including the annual ELI Luncheon on Feb. 11. Said Neil Portnow, who is fluent in legalese: "Just as the Grammy Foundation's education programs for high school students nurture the music professionals of tomorrow, our Entertainment Law Initiative is fostering the next generation of entertainment law practitioners." Brings a lump to your throat, don't it? (9/29a)
