Limewire Shortcircuited

LIMEWIRE SHORT-CIRCUITED: A federal judge has ordered Limewire to shut down its file-sharing application immediately, which immediately puts its reorganization into a legal site in jeopardy. The judge demanded that parent group Lime Group pull the plug on "the searching, downloading, uploading, file trading and/or file distribution functionality, and/or all functionality" of Limewire's P2P file-sharing software. "While this is not our ideal path, we hope to work with the music industry in moving forward," a Limewire spokesperson told Digital Music News. "We look forward to embracing necessary changes and collaborating with the entire music industry in the future." The Limewire Store will continue, as will ongoing plans to create a legal, cloud-based music service, according to separate sources. (10/26p)
