Rhino pop-up store returns

THEY DON’T NEED NO STINKING BRICK & MORTAR: The Rhino Records store in Westwood closed in 2005, but it’s coming back to life for the second straight year as a pop-up store. It’ll be open for business at 10952 Santa Monica Blvd., a few blocks from the original location, from May 27 to June 12 to raise funds for MusiCares. Rhino founder Richard Foos resurrected his legendary store in 2010 to raise money for jobs-creation charity Chrysalis. This year, Richard is teaming up with Gary Stewart, an original Rhino store employee and former SVP A&R for the Rhino label. The store, which will be stocked with records from the collections of record geeks and fanatics, plus donations from various labels, will also host performances from a series of iconic L.A. bands and artists. “Rhino wasn’t just a store—it was a community,” says Foos. “We tried to be a place where the eccentric and eclectic music lover had a home, and with the Rhino Pop Up, we’re out to prove that ‘you can go home again.’” For updates, go to www.facebook.com/RhinoRecordsPopUp.
