Dylan is 70

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BOB: Dylan turns 70 today…just think about that for a minute. It’s hard to imagine anyone else who could possibly be on the covers of Rolling Stone and AARP magazine at the same time. The Grammy Museum is honoring the occasion with a screening of Murray Lerner’s documentary The Other Side of the Mirror: Bob Dylan Live at the Newport Folk Festival 1963-1965, followed by a musical and philosophical exploration of the bard’s enormous legacy, with authors Sean Wilentz (Bob Dylan in America) and Mikal Gilmore serving as tour guides. And on L.A. Times blog Pop & Hiss, Randy Lewis offers a chronologically organized, 70-minute playlist of Dylan songs that reference various facets of age. It starts with “The Times They Are a-Changing” from 1964 and ends with “It’s All Good” from his most recent studio LP, 2009’s Together Through Life. (5/24a)
