Pattinson trying to get Jeff Buckley part

WILL ROBERT SING “HALLELUJAH”? Gossip Girl's Penn Badgley may have snagged the role of Jeff Buckley in Greetings From Tim Buckley, the upcoming film about his dad, but an “obsessed” Robert Pattinson is doing his best to get the central role in a film about the younger Buckley. The Twilightstar recently met with producers Michelle Sy and Orian Williams, who are still "in the midst of casting," according to EOnline.com. "Rob has expressed interest in the project and we did meet with him," Sy and Williams confirmed. "There are some actors who make sense, but it's easier to believe when it's more of an unknown… In real life, Jeff was a goofball; his friends told us to look for a young Jim Carrey. But we just want to find the right person with the right soul." Pattinson has already sold Buckley's mom, Mary Guibert, who’s deeply involved in the planning of the Jeff biopic—and winning her over is key to getting the part. "Robert is a fine young actor," Guibert said. "I'm flattered he's been linked to this project." The producers hope to prep for the film in September and shoot before the end of the year. (6/23a)
