MJ, Day One: Kenny Ortega

THE TRIAL, DAY ONE: Director/choreographer Kenny Ortega was the first witness called by the prosecution in the trial of Dr. Conrad Murray, which got underway Tuesday. The director/choreographer testified that the week before his death, Michael Jackson had showed up at rehearsals too ill to dance. Ortega then read an email that he wrote to AEG Live raising questions about whether the shows should be canceled. "Everything in me says he should be psychologically evaluated," Ortega read from the email. "There still may be a chance he can rise to the occasion if we get him the help he needs." Ortega said that when he approached Murray, the doctor told him to butt out of Jackson's medical care. Next to take the stand will be Paul Gongaware, who worked for AEG Live. A prosecutor told the L.A. Times that Gongaware will testify about conversations he had with Murray and Jackson. (9/28a)
