Big Star event at SXSW

SISTER LOVERS + BIG STAR DOC PREMIERE @ SXSW: Big Star’s Third (a.k.a. Sister Lovers) will be performed in its entirety by an all-star group of musicians, including Jody Stephens (the lone surviving member of the ultimate cult band); R.E.M.’s Mike Mills and Peter Buck, Mitch Easter of Let’s Active, Chris Stamey and pianist Charles Cleaver, as well as Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow of the Posies and Big Star Mk. 2. Guest vocalists are still signing on for the evening, which will take place on March 15 at Austin’s Paramount Theatre. The performance will be preceded by the debut screening of the feature-length documentary Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me (Work-in-Progress) at the same venue. The event is open to SXSW Film, Music, gold and platinum badge holders, as well as SXSW Film passes and Music wristbands. For those without badges, passes or wristbands, a limited number of advance single tickets are available for $25 via the Paramount website (austintheatre.org/film). Signed commemorative posters will be available at the show, with proceeds benefitting the NewOrleansMusiciansClinic.org. Good luck trying to get in at the last minute; for SXSW, this event is absolute godhead. (2/29a)
