NARM Taps Katy Perry

NARM TAPS KATY: Katy Perry will be named “Artist of the Year” during this spring’s NARM at the Music Biz 2012 Awards Dinner Party on Thursday, May 10, at L.A.’s Regency Century Plaza. Perry tied Michael Jackson’s record for most #1 singles from one album when five tracks from her Capitol Records sophomore release, Teenage Dream, topped the charts. The album sold more than 5.5 million copies worldwide, earning four Grammy nominations in 2011, including Album of the Year, and two in 2012 for the single “Firework.” Said NARM President Jim Donio: “Katy has unquestionably blossomed into a true global superstar and has earned this Award in every sense of the word. Just as she has, I’ve kissed a girl and I liked it.” Former recipients of the award include Taylor Swift, Coldplay and Green Day. Epitaph Records Founder and Bad Religion guitarist/songwriter Brett Gurewitz will receive the Independent Spirit Award, and the R.I.A.A. will be presented with the Presidential Award for Sustained Industry Achievement.
