Obama gives Dylan Medal of Freedom

POTUS MEETS THE BARD: The President presented the Medal of Freedom to 13 political and cultural greats yesterday, and those who are still alive were in attendance, including Bob Dylan. Taking note of the overflow crowd in the East Room, Obama remarked that it was "a testament to how cool this group is. Everybody wanted to check 'em out." He then called the recipients "my heroes individually. I know how they impacted my life." In college days, Obama said, he listened to Dylan and recalled "my world opening up, because he captured something about this country that was so vital." Dylan's appearance drew the biggest whoops from the crowd, and he showed up for his big day decked out in shades, bow tie and a black suit covered with shiny buckles and buttons. (5/30a)
