Pope wins The Voice

POPE INFALLIBLE: The Republic Records roster grew by one last night when, as expected, Cassadee Pope was voted the winner of The Voice, beating out runner-up Terry McDermott and third-place finisher Nicholas David. The 23-year-old Floridian had fronted pop-punk band Hey Monday but quit in order to audition for the show, hoping to compete for the record deal and $150k prize. Pope was busy during the star-studded season three finale, singing "Here With Me" with The Killers, dueting with Kelly Clarkson on "Catch My Breath" belting "I'm With You" alongside Avril Lavigne. These victory laps came a night after Pope reprised her game-changing performance of coach Blake Shelton's ballad “Over You,” the song that had further separated her from the pack while also suggesting she might have a future in country music. So did her Monday night performance of "Cry," embedded above. But that’ll be up to Cassadee and Monte Lipman to mull over. (12/19a)
