Flynn named SVP A&R for CMG

IN LIKE FLYNN: Mike Flynn has been named SVP A&R and staff producer for the Capitol Music Group. The move was made by Capitol Records President Dan McCarroll, who knows a thing or two about airplanes & restaurants (that’s what it’s short for, right?) himself. Flynn comes to the Tower after nine years as a senior A&R exec and staff producer for Epic, where he worked with The Fray (whose hit albums Mike produced), Cher Lloyd, Sara Bareilles, Sean Kingston, The Script, John Mellencamp, Howie Day and Matisyahu, among other acts. Interestingly, like McCarroll, he was a recording artist before transitioning to weaseldom. “I had the pleasure of working with Mike for many years previously, and I’m thrilled to have him back on my team,” CMG ruler Steve Barnett pointed out. “He is that rare music executive that not only has an ear for artistry and commercial appeal, but impeccable skills as a producer to bring out the best in the artists he works with.” McCarroll chimed in with a testimonial of his own, noting, “I've known Mike for years and have always wanted to work together. He is a fantastic producer and great with artists. I'm thrilled to have him as a part of our team.” Then it was Flynn’s turn. “It is an amazing opportunity to be part of rebuilding such a legendary music company as the Capitol Music Group,” he offered. “What an honor to be back working with Steve Barnett; he gave me my first opportunities to succeed in the music business, and is simply one of the very best record executives. He is assembling a group of talented people with a shared vision for the future of the music industry. I look forward to breaking new artists with Steve, Dan, Greg Thompson, Michelle Jubelirer and the entire CMG team. Now, do you have any Beatles mono boxes left?” (5/28a)
