iTUNES CHARTS: The Top 10s on the last day of May are framed by bona fide hits, Daft Punk and Justin Timberlake on the album side, Robin Thicke and Timberlake sandwiching the singles leaderboard. In between you’ll find movie-driven records (the Gatsby OST, 2 Chainz and Wiz Khalifa’s branded “We Own It [Fast & Furious]”), the usual coterie of debuts (Alice in Chains, Little Mix, Kid Ink, The-Dream) indie upstarts (Vampire Weekend, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis), country’s reigning royal couple (Blake Shelton with wife Miranda Lambert’s Pistol Annies) and a double-dipping star on the rise (writer/producer/singer Pharrell Williams, who shows up large on DP’s Song of the Summer and Thicke’s racy “Blurred Lines”). Throw in incumbents Imagine Dragons, P!nk, Selena Gomez and Florida Georgia Line, and it wouldn’t be a stretch to say this morning has become eclectic, as the expanding mainstream continues to absorb the outliers.
