YE JOLLY OLDE iTUNES U.K. CHARTS: From our vantage point 6,000 miles away, this London snapshot is a study in contrasts. On the one hand, rock has launched a counterattack on the album side, as collaborating legends Roger Daltrey and Dr. Feelgood’s Wilko Johnson shove aside the popsters, EDMers and various Various Artists to hold down the #2 position, just above art-rockers Elbow, while our homegirls in HAIM appear to be in the process of duplicating what Kings of Leon pulled off a decade ago—breaking through in Britain before doing the same back home in the States. There’s familiarity, too, in the appearance of labelmates Pharrell Williams and John Legend on both the albums and singles leaderboards, as well as the fact that, adding HAIM, Columbia presently has three albums in the Top 10. On the other hand, the first time we became aware of The Dermot O’Leary Show, Sam Bailey (who turns out to be female and the 2013 X Factor champ) and Faul & Wad Ad (apparently an electronic duo) was this morning when we entered the store.
