Excape release

MJ ON THE CUTTING EDGE: The announcement regarding the new Michael Jackson album XCAPE we told you to expect yesterday went out at 6am PDT. Here are the details: The project features eight new tracks produced by Timbaland, Rodney Jerkins, Stargate, Jerome “Jroc” Harmon and estate co-executor John McClain, who worked from Jackson’s original recordings, achieving what’s described as “a fresh, contemporary sound that retains Jackson’s essence and integrity.” The deluxe version of the album—available for pre-order tonight at 9pm PDT—will also contain those original demos. XCAPE was executive produced by Epic chief L.A. Reid, who curated the final list of recordings to deliver to the producers. “Michael left behind some musical performances that we take great pride in presenting through the vision of music producers that he either worked directly with or expressed strong desire to work with,” said Reid. In a joint statement, co-executors John Branca and McClain added, “Michael was always on the cutting edge and was constantly reaching out to new producers, looking for new sounds. He was always relevant and current. These tracks, in many ways, capture that spirit. We thank L.A. Reid for his vision.” The album streets on 5/13. (3/31a)
