Year-End Airplay Marketshare finds IGA and Atlantic in the Lead, RMG, IDJ, JLG Also Strong

A year-end look at the major (and indie) label promotion departments’ results, according to marketshare reports from Mediabase.

Jimmy Iovine’s Interscope Geffen A&M promo troops once again led the pack in the Mediabase Overall label share, with 14.9%, #1 at Top 40 (19.7%) and Alternative (12.1%) and second at Rhythmic (15.8%) and Hot AC (16.3%)… Once again, Atlantic Records was next, with 11.1%, scoring honors at Rhythmic (15.9%) and Urban (15%) and runner-up status at Rock (12.2%) and Active Rock (9.8%)... Richard Palmese’s RCA Music Group was #3 Overall at 10.7%, #1 at Urban AC (16.2%), AC (16.9%), and Hot AC (16.7%) and #2 at Top 40 (12.3%) and Triple A (10.8%%). Among the chart leaders scored by the Promotion Preacher were Kemosabe/RMG pop diva Ke$ha’s #1 Top 40 smash, “Tik Tok,” as well as Alicia Keys’ “Unthinkable (I’m Ready)” at Urban, along with Dave Matthews Band (#3 at Triple A)... Steve Bartels and Erik Olesen’s IDJ promo squad landed at #4 in Overall airplay (8.6%), with a #4 finish at Top 40 (9.3%) alongside a #3 at both Rhythmic (14.9%) and Urban (13.9%) The label scored a Top 5 smash at Rhythmic with Rihanna’s “Rude Boy,” a #3 finish at Urban with Ludacris’ “How Low” and a #8 for Neon Trees’ “Animal” at AlternativeJoe Riccitelli’s Jive warriors battled to a #5 Overall finish (7.8%), #4 at Urban (13.2%) #3 at Urban AC (14%), #5 at Rock (7.6%), #3 at Active Rock (9.7%) and #4 at Alternative (7.9%). Riccitelli had the #1 hit at Urban in Usher’s “There Goes My Baby,” and, with Three Days Grace’s “Break” the #1 song at Active Rock and #2 at Rock… Greg Thompson’s Capitol Records Group squad finished just outside the Top 5, with a 7.5% Overall airplay share, scoring #1 at Rock (14%), #4 at AC (12.3%), #2 at Alternative (10.2%), and #5 at both Triple A (7.6%) and Smooth AC (4.4%). Among the big acts were Lady Antebellum (#1 at AC, #3 at Hot AC), Alice in Chains (#1 and #4 at Rock, #5 at Active Rock), Katy Perry (#9 at Top 40), Sick Puppies (#8 at Active Rock), 30 Seconds to Mars (#7 at Alternative), Norah Jones (#6 at Triple A) and Michael Franti & Spearhead (#9 at Triple A)… Joel Klaiman’s Universal Republic promo squadron finished #7 Overall, at 6.3%, finishing up Top 5 at Top 40 (8.2%), #2 at AC (15.5%), #3 at Hot AC (11.7%) and Triple A (8.9%). The label’s biggest radio hits included Colbie Caillat’s “Fallin’ for You” (#4 at AC), Taylor Swift (#6 at Hot AC), Godsmack (#6 at Rock and Active Rock) and Jack Johnson (#7 at Triple A)… The Todd Glassman-led Universal Motown promo domos were #8 Overall (6%), finishing #4 at Rhythmic (12.2%), with such airplay gainers as Young Money f/Lloyd’s “Bedrock” (#3 at Rhythmic) and Drake’s “Find Your Love” #7. Melanie Fiona was #7 at Urban and #6 Urban AC, while Erykah Badu and Kem finished #7 and 8, respectively, at the latter... The Bunny’s Ron Cerrito led the WB to a #9 Overall finish (5.3%), scoring the #1 and #6 singles at Alternative (#3, 9.9%) in Muse’s “Uprising” and “Resistance,” #3 single at Top 40 (5.3%) with Jason DeRulo’s “In My Head,” #8 at Rhythm (7.4%) with New Boyz f/Ray J’s “Tie Me Down” and #10 at Active Rock with Avenged Sevenfold’s “Nightmare”… Team Columbia’s Lee Leipsner guided the label to a Top 10 Overall finish (5.1%), with Train’s “Hey, Soul Sister” #3 at AC and #11 at Top 40, Maxwell’s “Fistful of Tears” #3 at Urban AC (where Columbia/Epic was #2 with %14.3%), while John Mayer’s “Heartbreak Warfare” and the Avett Brothers’ “I & Love & You” ended up #8 and #10 at Triple A, respectively... Jacqueline Saturn’s Epic was #11 Overall (2.9%), scoring with The Script’s triple play, #2 at Hot AC, #12 at AC and #17 at Top 40, Sade Top 10 at Urban AC, Ozzy Osbourne #7 at Rock and Mudvayne #7 at Active RockRoadrunner’s Mike Easterlin and his wild bunch scored #3 at Rock (9.1%) and #5 at Active Rock (7.3%), featuring such airplay hits as Slipknot (#11 at Rock) and Nickelback (#15 and #20 at Rock) as well as Stone Sour (#18 at Active Rock)… Reprise’s Mike Rittberg finished #4 at Rock (7.7%) and #8 at Active Rock (5.3%), with airplay movers from Disturbed (#14 at Rock and #13 at Active Rock)… Hollywood’s Justin Fontaine was active at AC (3.8%) and Rock (5.3%), with radio records from Miley Cyrus (#11 at AC) and Breaking Benjamin (#2 at Active Rock, #3 at Rock and #9 at Alternative)… The indies were also active, with Glassnote’s Daniel Glass scoring two Top 10 records at Triple A and #11 at Alternative with PhoenixPearl Jam’s initial indie foray proved a success as their own Monkeywrench label forged a #1 Triple A single in “Breathe”… Meanwhile, Fontana’s Sky Daniels landed a #4 smash at Alternative with Dirty Heads f/Rome… Last, but certainly far from least, Shangri-La Music’s attack hamster Michael Plen chilled at #2 Triple A with One Eskimo’s “Kandi.”
