John Mayer Ready to Top U.S. Album Chart, Emeli Sandé Rules in U.K.
Look for Columbia Records singer-songwriter-guitarist John Mayer’s Born and Raised to top the HITS’ Album sales chart this afternoon with a total that could reach 250k.

Meanwhile, across the pond, Virgin/EMI Scottish singer/songwriter Emeli Sandé’s Our Version of Events returned to #1 on the U.K. album charts for its third separate stint, having debuted there in February. It nudged past veteran bluesman Joe Bonamassa’s Driving Towards the Daylight for the top spot by less than 100 units. Fueled by Ramen artists fun.’s “We Are Young” finally reached #1 in its seventh week on the U.K. singles chart.

XL Recordings artist Adele moved #4-3 with 21, while Mayer entered at #4, his best-ever British ranking and first U.K. Top 10 for the artist, whose previous best was a #35 peak for 2009's Battle Studies.

The death of Robin Gibb catapulted the Bee GeesPolydor/Universal best-of, Number Ones, #34-5, a new high for a compilation that previously reached #7 in 2004 when it was released. Reprise/Warner Music's 2009 The Ultimate Bee Gees re-entered at #35. Keane's Strangeland (Universal Island) fell to #6 after two weeks in the top spot.

fun. also saw their Some Nights album debut at #7, just ahead of Tom Jones' Spirit in the Room (Universal Island) at #8. Jones, currently a judge on BBC1's version of The Voice, has extended his streak of Top 10 U.K. albums to 45 years, since Green Green Grass of Home reached #3 in 1967.

Also new inside the top ten was the Enemy's Streets in the Sky (Cooking Vinyl) at #9, following 2007's #1 debut We'll Live and Die in These Towns and the #2 follow-up, Music for the People, in 2009. There were Top 20 debuts for former Blue Nile vocalist Paul Buchanan's Mid Air (Newsroom) at #14, Glassnote rockers The Temper Trap's eponymous album for Infectious Music at #17 and longtime rockers the Cult's Choice of Weapon (Cooking Vinyl) at # 20.

On the singles chart, The Wanted's "Chasing the Sun" is #2 behind fun., followed by Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" at # 3, while Roc Nation diva Rita Ora’s "R.I.P." featuring Tinie Tempah fell to #4 after two weeks on top.
