HITS Daily Double
IVANA: i'm glad that radio is embracing some records that are truly alternative, like the aforementioned ting tings, and low vs. diamond, plus kooks, spoon (of course), the airborne toxic event, not to mention vampire weekend, does it offend you, yeah, the faint, everlast, black kids (which is completely genius)

LENNY: many seem to be moving back to more alt music finally. the hard rock side of alternative just makes me want to blehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

IVANA: the "most added" songs today would indicate otherwise, but there is the occasional ray of hope.

IVANA & LENNY ARE WARMED BY
A RAY OF HOPE

Good New Records and Positive Moves at PoMo Radio Suggest That Things May Actually Be Getting Better (but Don't Hold Your Breath)
LENNY: so, did you watch the new mtv show, FNMTV, last week?
IVANA: i tivo'd. it was the ting tings, right? i also missed them at the troubadour that night, since i was dealing with an ailing cat. but lisa worden, who chose to celebrate her birthday at the show, said they were great
LENNY: yes, the ting tings were sensational, i looooove their video, it is way clever. it really made me a fan of the song
IVANA: i saw them at sxsw. wait til columbia gets to the second big monster multi-format smash on the record
LENNY: it may be the second smash, this one sounds like it could cross into the pop/dance arena
IVANA: last week’s other big buzz was the announcement of leslie fram as pd at wrxp in nyc. cumulus, in their infinite wisdom, were too stupid to not do everything in their power to keep her in atlanta, but emmis wins by making her a pd in market #1!
LENNY: yes, love leslie, and she more than deserved this one.... if there was only a way to combine her talents with those of wxrk pd mike tierney—what a team that would be.
IVANA: bryan schock, who used to be pd at 91x, is set as md at wrxp. he’s been holding down the fort since the station signed on! our pal matt pinfield is now doing mornings
LENNY: that's strong
IVANA: did i tell you that emmis austin made lynn barstow the pd at kgsr, while he continues to be pd at krox? jody denberg remains director of content, as well as the most beloved and known presence at kgsr
LENNY: yes, lynn is one of the best pds in america, and jody is a rock god
IVANA: it's a great acknowledgement for lynn--he's earned it. did i tell you i went to visit dave beasing at The Sound? it was fun to see him in his new digs. we had a great time talking music, but he wouldn't let me delete all of the songs in his database that i don't like
LENNY: i hope you at least took the phil collins songs out
IVANA: i think that one's gone already
LENNY: excellent, good start. so, have you heard the xm sirius merger updates, i think they will be combining in the next two months
IVANA: i haven't heard anything yet regarding personnel, or if they will move everybody into the sirius building in nyc or the xm building in washington
LENNY: i just fear more people being fired.... i have friends in those two organizations, as we all do
IVANA: i have both xm and sirius and listen to them both regularly. the coldplay cd should be huge!
LENNY: coldplay sales look really BIG
IVANA: as big as my expanding belly?
LENNY: that apple commercial has exploded “viva la vida” at all formats, so it may be even bigger, if that is fathomable
IVANA: wow, that's big! And we just had a big week of rock: the airborne toxic event at spaceland Tuesday night and duffy at the el rey on thursday!
LENNY: i am rock 'n' roll. i saw duffy in nyc and she was a sensation
IVANA: she must've been for you to go out to a show that isn't james taylor!
LENNY: i was in nyc and had nothing to do.... but it was worth it. i do love james
IVANA: the "most added" songs today would indicate otherwise, but there is the occasional ray of hope. theory of a deadman, trapt, all the bands i couldn’t pick out of a lineup if there was a gun pointed at my head
LENNY: the "all breaking benjamin format" is simply not what i was hoping for
IVANA: no shit. that's why i think stations like the one leslie is going to program will be an alternative to the alternative
LENNY: i will definitely check it out on my next trip east
IVANA: give my regards to broadway
LENNY: now say goodnight, gracie
IVANA: goodnight, gracie
