COLDPLAY IT AGAIN

Massive Pre-Release Campaign Spurs #1 Bow with 729k, Disney’s Camp Rock #3, Rihanna Re-Package, Katy Perry, Offspring Bow Top 10
Talk about taking a bite out of the Apple.

Coldplay’s Capitol album Vida la Vida, thanks to a brilliant pre-release campaign topped off with a $25 million iTunes ad spot and a chart-topping single, debuts at #1 on this week’s HITS sales chart with 729k in sales.

That’s enough to drop Cash Money/Universal Motown rap icon Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III to #2, with 285k in sales.

Disney’s Camp Rock soundtrack, following this weekend’s multiple showings of the movie, which stars the Jonas Brothers, bows at #3, along with three more Top 10 newcomers in the repackaged Rihanna Def Jam/IDJ album Good Girl Gone Bad (#6), Capitol ingenue Katy Perry’s One of the Boys (#9) and Columbia SoCal punk veterans Offspring’s Rise & Fall, Rage & Grace (#10).

Top 10 holdovers include Capitol’s Now 28 (#4), LaFace/ZLG’s Usher (#5), Reprise’s Disturbed (#7) and Slip-N-Slide’s Plies (#8).

For those of you keeping score, that gives EMI’s Capitol Music Group three of the Top 10.

Epic metal pioneers Judas Priest lead the Top 50 new entries at #12, followed by Def Jam/IDJ’s Blood Raw (#28), Universal Republic’s 2 Pistols (#33) and Sub Pop’s Wolf Parade (#48), with Hollywood’s Jonas Brothers (#35) returning.

Atlantic’s Kid Rock (#19-15) and Big Machine’s Jewel (#29-26) are the only two entries to show significant upward mobility.

This week’s most notable new release is Columbia’s Oscar-winning rappers Three 6 Mafia.
