BOYLE AND GAGA RING IN NEW DECADE

Five Divas Dominate Top of Chart, as Keys, Swift and Blige Join Boyle and Gaga
The new decade begins much as the last one ended—with divas dominating the top of the first HITS Album Sales chart of the year.

Syco/Columbia’s Susan Boyle retains her year-end sales explosion by finishing at #1, as I Dreamed a Dream adds another 131,330 to her total, which now tops 3.1 million in its record-shattering sixth week in the lead.

That’s enough to turn back Interscope Grammy contender Lady Gaga’s deluxe edition of The Fame, which logs another 84k at #2, while the Fame Monster EP is #11, with 43k.

Three more divas round out the week’s Top 5, in J/RMG’s Alicia Keys (#3, 71k), Big Machine’s Taylor Swift (#4, 61k) and Geffen’s Mary J. Blige (#5, 57k).

Island/IDJ teen phenom Justin Bieber continues his impressive showing at #6, followed by Rhino’s Alvin & The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel soundtrack (#7), Interscope’s Black Eyed Peas (#8), Columbia’s Glee, Vol. 1 (#9) and Universal Republic’s Owl City (#10).

Aside from Boyle and Glee, Vol. 2, Steve Barnett’s Columbia team has the first volume of the Glee soundtrack at #17, John Mayer’s Battle Studies at #18 and Grammy nominee Beyonce’s I Am… Sasha Fierce at #39.

Eminem’s new deluxe Relapse: Refill album on Shady/Aftermath/Interscope climbs back into contention at #13, while labelmates Robin Thicke’s Star Trak/Interscope effort, Sex Therapy, is #20 with 50 Cent’s Before I Self Destruct at #33.

Glassnote’s acclaimed Phoenix album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, is picking up steam at #29, thanks to its appearance on a slew of year-end critics’ lists, while Epic sports three different Michael Jackson releases in the Top 50, including This Is It (#23), Number Ones (#31) and Essential (#47).

Disney’s Hollywood Records is also showing sales clout, landing Selena Gomez and the Scene (#26), Breaking Benjamin (#42) and Miley Cyrus (#43) in the Top 50.

Hitting retail this week is RCA/RMG’s Ke$ha, whose debut album, Animal, looks like it has a shot at #1 next Tuesday, spurred by the 2 million-plus downloads of the hit single, “TiK ToK" and surprisingly good reviews, including this one by L.A. Times pop music critic Ann Powers this morning.
