While Jesse Works on His Tan in Hawaii, Jake Livingston Sits In With His Picks to Click
Suddenly,
everyone's an activist. This week we’ve seen the American public turn out in unprecedented numbers to make their voices heard on numerous issues.
Obama is in,
Prop 8 has (unfortunately) passed…and my cohort has run off to
Hawaii—but never fear, he voted before he jetted westward. In any case, we’re thrilled that hope has been restored and change is on the horizon, like a glorious sunrise over the South Pacific.
Because Jesse and I are out of touch, this week’s edition of Wheels takes a look at the recommendations of Jake Livingston, our good friend, dedicated reader and musical activist,. Happy now, Jake? You, too, can see your name at the top of our column and your favorite acts in the body. Drop us a line (and some bands to check out) at [email protected].
The Dance Party: High-energy rock group out of Washington, DC, that combines sounds of dance, new wave and power pop. Captivating fans with their high-intensity live performance, The Dance Party were chosen to take part of CMJ 2008 and continue to tour throughout DC and the Mid-Atlantic. They recently recorded 10 new tracks with Andros Rodriguez and are garnering a ton of press as well. Catch them on tour and check out the tunes at www.myspace.com/thedanceparty.
Bo Pepper: Catchy hooks and fun-infused songs just begin to describe this indie-electro outfit from the U.K. Bo Pepper might be described as Yeah Yeah Yeahs meet The Gossip, with a splash of the Ting Tings; Perez Hilton says, “they can rock hard!” With a stalwart fan base, they’ve taken their live show to several small clubs in and around their home region. Don’t be left out. Check out the hype at www.myspace.com/bopepper.
Canterbury: An other U.K.-based group, Canterbury is heating up our headphones with a fresh indie pop-rock sound. Currently working on a studio album and playing dates in Britain, they’ve got a booking agent, manager and dedicated fan base on their side. It’s only a matter of time before songs like “Set You Right” and “Eleven Twelve” take Canterbury from their homestead to new markets and fans abroad. Find out what we’re talking about at www.myspace.com/canterbury.
