WHEELS 2.0 IS RUDE, LONELY & AUDIBLE ON CMJ WEEKEND

If You're Not at the Music Marathon, Jesse’s Got Some Sounds to Get Your Ears Ringing

While my partner Erica is off in CMJ land, I’m holding down the fort this week with some great new talent and big shout-out to one of the bands we featured in the past. As for the fresh talent, one is a rapper born in the Bahamas who is creating quite the buzz in the industry right now, while the other is an indie-rock quartet from Washington state with an extremely accessible sound We think both acts are super-talented; check ’em out below—and keep feeding our inbox: [email protected]

ONE TO WATCH
Rude Boy
(www.rudeboyworld.com): Andrew Knowles, better known by his stage name, was born in Freeport, Bahamas, where he lived with his mother until the age of 3, when they moved to Miami-Dade County, Florida. His father moved back and forth from one city to another, but always maintained a close relationship with his son, whether it was by phone or occasional visits, until he went to prison when the youngster was 6. At that time, Rude Boy's life began to take rough turns. His mother moved in with the kid’s paternal grandmother and worked two jobs to maintain a stable life for both of them. It wasn’t until Rude Boy teamed up with local producer team Smif-N-Gunz that his career began to take off. His single “On and Poppin” is already started to get spins in Florida, and it’s only a matter of time before this talented artist takes center stage. ON DECK
The Lonely Forest
(www.myspace.com/thelonelyforest): We absolutely dig this indie-rock four-piece from Anacortes, WA, in the vein of Death Cab. There’s a definite buzz going around the industry about these guys, and we advise you to check them out if you haven’t heard them yet. Our fave track is “We Sing in Time.”

BAND/ARTIST UPDATES
Audible Mainframe (
www.myspace.com/audiblem): Congratulations to this up-and-coming band for winning Airwalk/Spin contest. They snagged a ton of cool Airwalk gear, $5,000 cash, and an all-expenses-paid trip to SXSW to perform at the Spin showcase at Stubbs. Way to go, guys.
