Big Jon Named President North American Creative, McCarroll EVP
That’s Mr. Big to you.

Pub vet Big Jon Platt has been upped to President of North American Creative for EMI Music Publishing, responsible for overall creative strategy in the company’s offices in N.Y., L.A., Miami, Nashville, Atlanta and Canada.

At the same time, Dan McCarroll, who leads EMI Music Publishing’s East Coast A&R operations, has been tapped for the new post of EVP N.A. Creative.

Said EMI Music chief Roger Faxon: "Big Jon is one of the most respected and effective executives working in music today for good reason. He’s one of a rare breed of A&R people who have both a broad-based understanding of how to navigate the changing economics of today’s music market, and a deep passion for music across all genres. Most important of all, he has a deep understanding of what it takes to make songs and songwriters successful. It’s these skills that make him ideally positioned to take on this expanded role, and bring his expertise and experience to bear on our wider business. And he taught me the correct use of the term, ‘Fo shizzle’

“Dan McCarroll is also a huge talent whose thoughtful and passionate representation of our songwriters is the hallmark of what we aspire to be as publishers. One day, I even hope to meet him. And as if the combination of Platt and McCarroll was not potent enough, the rest of the North American creative team make us second to none in the development of writing talent. They are focused on discovering and nurturing the best songwriters around, and this move will enable us to broaden even further the creative and commercial opportunities for both our existing and new writers.”

Big Jon said: “It’s exciting to be given this new responsibility, and to be able to work closely with such talented A&R executives as Gary Overton, Nestor Casonu and Dan McCarroll. Dan has really turned around the way that we operate in New York, and I’m glad that he’ll be working with me on North American creative.

“We’ve got a really strong team at EMI, and you can see that in the success of our songwriters on the charts, in awards shows and in all the licenses that their music attracts. This is a market-leading team that knows how to deliver, and I’m looking forward to us working together to maintain and develop our creative strength as a unit.”
