Singer/Songwriter Soars, Alternative Supergroup Get Folked Up
A well-traveled singer-songwriter from N.Y. by way of Michigan and a veritable trio of alterna-rock superstars score the top debuts in this week’s HITS Vibe-Raters section.

S-Curve ruler Steve Greenberg discovery Diane Birch is being touted to follow in the footsteps of the veteran talent exec’s previous diva find Joss Stone. Her single “Nothing but a Miracle” is registering huge gains at Triple A, with Hot Adult to follow. On tour with Mat Kearney through October, Birch will has been promoting Bible Belt with an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel (7/31) and an upcoming piece on CBS Early Morning (8/22). Monsters of Folk have generated a huge buzz for their self-titled debut on Jeff Ayeroff and Steve Bing’s Shangri-La Music, featuring three of the shining lights of PoMo music in Bright EyesConor Oberst, My Morning Jacket’s Jim James and M. Ward, joined along with producer/multi-instrumentalist Mike Mogis after the foursome toured together in 2004. The first single, “Say Please” is making gains at Triple A, with WXRT, KCRW, WXPN and Sirius/XMU. U.S. tour dates are slated for 10/13-11/10, followed by dates in Europe.
