Volk’s duties will include transferring all of Ivana’s old Hansen tapes onto her iPod, selling off Editor in Chief Lenny Beer’s spare Clipper ducats on Craig’s List, kibbitzing about American Idol by the water cooler and bragging about his son’s Little League prowess.

BETTER OFF TED

Veteran Promo Exec Ted Volk’s Career Hits Rock Bottom as HITS VP Rock Formats
This is one music industry veteran who deserves better.

Ted Volk has worked under Capitol’s Andy Slater, Maverick’s Guy Oseary and now HITS’ own Ivana B. Adored, among others. In other words, the well-respected promotion man deserves combat pay after being named Vice President Rock Formats for HITS magazine. There’s still a Rock format?

Starting as a local promo man in 1991 for Geffen Records in Boston, Volk left after six years to become head of Promo for Maverick, then spent four years as head of Alternative/Rock Promotion at Capitol.

The groups he has worked include Nirvana, Weezer, Counting Crows, Beck, Hole,

Alanis Morissette, Michelle Branch, Deftones, Radiohead, Coldplay, Jane’s Addiction, Hurt, Beastie Boys and Sick Puppies.

Hey, the man knows what it’s like to suffer. He has season tickets to the Clippers. Rumors that Morissette’s “You Oughta Know” is about him went unconfirmed at presstime. Said Volk: “I only keep enough supplies in my office that I can fit into a mail carton and get outta there at a moment’s notice.”
