IVANA & TED HAVE A BAD CASE OF THE VOICEMAIL BLUES

TedVolk: Hey KG, while you were on your way back from Coachella last last weekend, I was going through the Sunday LA Times (in-between watching Hannah Montana with the kids), and there you were, listed in the “Others to Watch” among L.A. “tastemakers.” SO HOT
IVANA: It was flattering to be included with Shepard Fairey, Mitchell Frank and other real tastemakers
TedVolk: Shut up, this is great--"During her 17 years with the bible of music industry trade magazines, HITS, Glauber has become an arbiter of popular culture, instrumental in identifying break-out bands”
IVANA: Then why do I spend all day leaving voicemails? I'm an "arbiter of popular culture," dammit! Ok, so why is my job so difficult when I'm supposedly so good at it?
TedVolk: Since January alone, you have helped put Peter Bjorn & John on the map—hello, 35x last week at KROQ! Sick Puppies--hello, three new killer adds 5 months later and big time east coast callout. Amy Winehouse--hello, you play it, it works...and sells big time.. No, I haven't forgot about Arcade Fire--hello! Is there a better live band right now? Coachella winners. OMG--The Bravery is already at #12!!
IVANA: Arcade Fire is the best live band that exists. I am merely their cheerleader
TedVolk: So I say YES TO VOICEMAIL!!
IVANA: Is voicemail the new IM?
TedVolk: You know, Karen, I consider myself an expert with voicemail....In fact, I am looking into teaching a UCLA continuing education class on the subject! My first speaker will be Perry Farell
IVANA: Yes, even usually jaded PDs are star-struck to hear a voicemail from Satellite Party frontman Perry. He did a brilliant 45-minute interview on-air with KBZT during Coachella, btw.
TedVolk: Our brand-new daddy JJ Grossman and his team are doing great with the record... Perry is the best and the record is working
IVANA: Who else do you think leaves great voicemail?
TedVolk: Well Joey Scoleri would tell me he doesn't leave voicemails--I would believe him since he has two in the top 5, plus Sparta now getting some action and Evans Blue on the way
IVANA: He's indefatigable. I've heard that DiMaio has a way with voicemail, and I'll vouch for Bill Burrs’ prowess on the phone.
TedVolk: Bill Carroll and Howard P are two other guys who probably would say they don't leave voicemail. They have my favorite song right now--"Say It Sooner" by The Almost.
IVANA: I'm telling the Sick Puppies--I thought they were your favorites
TedVolk: Thank you for reminding me--LOVE THAT RECORD!
IVANA: Is my admission of leaving voicemail making me seem light?
TedVolk: Well the Los Angeles Fucking Times doesn't think so
IVANA: This job is a bit tough on the self-esteem
TedVolk: I used to think leaving my number twice was a good thing, but after calling John Moschitta for the 100th time without a callback, maybe I should rethink that. LOL
IVANA: Wait, are you naming names on the "endless voicemail derby?" Let's go! I will take your John Moschitta and raise you one Rob Cressman. Even my sultriest voice can't lure a call-back.
TedVolk: and you do leave good voicemail. Ranked #2 is Shark!
IVANA: And he's a nice guy, or so Mark Czarra tells me
TedVolk: Great guy...just doesn't pick up. I would always tease on him voicemail--saying why in the world am I leaving you one?
IVANA: I feel that way every time I call Kevin Mays, who I ADORED when he was at WFNX
TedVolk: That station kicks ass! Why talk to anyone when you are doing that well as WBTZ is?
IVANA: Interestingly, the programmers in Top 20 markets are among the most accessible. Correlation? These are strange times. It was nice to see Scott Burton at Coachella--he’ll do great at Capitol. How awesome is the Interpol? Of course, I"m not remotely biased…
TedVolk: Now that's a good guy... He will kick ass for Capitol!! One more thing--I love the Modest Mouse follow-up!
IVANA: This is their career record, even without a "Float On" on it
TedVolk: pretty darn good songs--Mr. DePippa is making the promo gig look easy
IVANA: I saw Mike and Adan at the KBZT house on Saturday. They're killing it. Did I mention the new Interpol? The ongoing obsession has blossomed again with yesterday's release of "The Heinrich Maneuver"
TedVolk: you did...but what a cool new record...amazing band
IVANA: you know who else were fantastic at Coachella? Arctic Monkeys
TedVolk: Killer follow-up... How about the next indie smash?
IVANA: tell me
TedVolk: Fiction Plane on Bieler Bros. They have something special with “Two Sisters.”
IVANA: I heard that song after seeing spins on WPBZ. They're on tour with some other indie band, right?
TedVolk: They will be on tour all summer long with The Police!
IVANA: That will be massive. Any parting words of advice?
TedVolk: Keep the faith...if it worked back then, it will work today!
