POLEMAN STAYS PUT

Veteran Programmer in EMI Mix Chooses to Remain With Clear Channel
Tom Poleman’s not going anywhere after all.

The veteran programmer has renewed his deal with Clear Channel in his role as Operations Manager of Z100 and SVP Programming & Marketing for the broadcast giant’s N.Y. cluster.

That means EMI's Guy Hands is just one-for-three on a plan hatched by an unnamed exec, which I.B. Bad told you about last week. Said exec might have been able to bring in Poleman and Paul Caine, as well as Billy Mann, had he been given the green light. But Hands changed his mind about hiring this unnamed individual while retaining the mystery man's plan to go after the three amigos.

As part of the deal, Poleman will play a major role in the national expansion of Elvis Duran & the Morning Zoo, on-air, on-line and in emerging technologies. He will also continue to oversee programming and marketing for New York stations Z100, Q104.3, WKTU, Power 105.1, WLTW and WALK.

Williams stated: “Along with his exceptional programming talents, Tom is a wonderful leader who plays a vital role in our success across all departments in New York. I am excited that he will continue to focus his talents on growing our ratings and developing our new media platforms, while working closely with Elvis Duran to expand his impact in the New York market and beyond.”

Elvis Duran stated: “Our fantastic future just became MORE fantastic. With Tom as our partner, we are assured of success and new ways to get there.”

When Poleman joined Z100 in 1996 as PD, he named Duran to mornings, and led the station’s shift back to its Top 40 roots, doubling the ratings and returning Z100 to a dominant position in the New York market. The station is currently ranked #1 in the Summer 2007 Arbitron ratings. In 2000, Poleman was also named SVP Programming and Marketing for Z100, WLTW, WKTU, Q104.3, Power 105.1, and WALK, where he has worked closely with each of the programming directors for the NY cluster.

Poleman stated: “While I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished, I’m even more excited about future possibilities. We have a great team and six of the strongest brands in radio. Our opportunities for growth and exploration of new technologies are endless. I’m also thrilled to be teaming with Elvis on his brand expansion. His successes in New York, New Jersey and Miami are only the beginning. We’ll have a lot of fun exploring new ways to grow.”
