It’s official. You can now get Punk’d in high def.
MTV Networks honcho Van Toffler announced the new management team for its MHD: Music High-Definition Channel, which will be headed by VH1 EVP/GM Tom Calderone, who will oversee overall creative and channel operations for MHD, reporting to Toffler.
VH1 Classic and VH1 Digital Television SVP/GM Eric Sherman has added GM duties for MHD, reporting to Calderone. He’ll manage day-to-day operations of the network, as well as increased distribution and development of programming and marketing, as well as touching up old Hall & Oates videos for the new format.
Rounding out the management team is MTV VP Label Relations Peter Baron, who will oversee music programming in coordination with VH1 EVP Music & Talent Rick Krim and CMT VP Music & Talent Chris Parr. VH1/MHD Sr. VP Programming Strategy Ben Zurier will manage program planning and acquisitions for the network, while MHD Sr. Director Neil Sharma will handle business operations and strategy. Sharma was an integral part of the business development team that launched the channel in January of 2006.
Said Toffler: “With this cross-music-brand team in place, we can answer the call from our audiences and distribution partners to create an exceptional high-definition musical experience that covers a broad musical spectrum. I can’t think of anyone better than Eric and Tom to provide the strategic leadership to grow this network and provide fluid integration of musical content from all of our music channels—MTV, VH1 and CMT—as well as exciting new original programming... I can’t wait to see the Andy Milonakis Show in high def after about 10 humongous bong hits.”
MHD’s official studio headquarters is based 10,350 feet above sea level in a custom-built studio on top of Vail Mountain’s Eagle’s Nest. The studio is home to all original programming created specifically for the HDTV network, including the original concert series Music with Altitude, featuring performances from Dashboard Confessional, country star Gary Allan, the Goo Goo Dolls, and up-and-coming recording artist and reality television star Cheyenne Kimball.
