WHEELS & DEALS: INDUSTRIOUS WEASEL PULLS OUT ALL STOPS TO SNAG "NEW SENSATION"

A Bold Move, and Proof That at Least One Person Actually Watches Rockstar: INXS
WEASEL IN HEAT: One enterprising A&R hitter on the West Coast seemed to take last week’s item about the malaise among L.A.-based talent scouts to heart and decided to go the extra mile in pursuing an artist. For those of you following the Mark Burnett reality TV show, Rockstar: INXS, the number aspiring performers competing for the lead role to front the veteran rock band is down to nine. One of the standouts of the bunch, 22-year- old Jordis Unga, apparently caught the eye of one label exec. Word on the street is that our friendly neighborhood weasel apparently finagled a ticket for an audience seat at one of the performance tapings in hopes of meeting the singer. As most of you would guess, the taping has strict instructions and enforcement of no interaction between the audience and the competitors. Our weasel friend on the hunt managed to locate a seat an arm’s length from the lovely Jordis. And when the time was right, he apparently handed her a note with his business card. Of course, we heard that Jordis’ eyes lit up when she noticed the card was from a major-label A&R exec. But before she could read the note, security appeared and snatched the card and note away from her. And our weasel friend was reportedly manhandled by a number of burly security types in front of the audience and literally thrown off of the studio lot. Although the reality show has an arrangement with Epic Records, the commitment of the performers who don’t win the final slot will probably expire at some predetermined time after the airing of the finale, similar to American Idol. No word yet if our weasel friend has been either fired due to staff cutbacks or promoted with Sr. VP stripes for his efforts. But we give him an “A” for hustling. We’ll keep you posted… At press time, we hear label folks are talking about the Jon Goldwater-repped, female-fronted Balay. The group performs at the Key Club in L.A this week… The Jason Reynolds-repped Every Move a Picture signs with V2San Diego radio station 91X has officially added singer/songwriter Ryan Ferguson to their playlist.
